Madrid reunion connects LUMS students and alumni
Published 8 December 2011
Student mobility between Madrid and Lancaster has increased over recent years, mainly as a result of a prestigious double degree programme LUMS runs with one of the best Spanish Business schools, Universidad Pontificia Comillas. Madrid has also become an attractive location for LUMS undergraduate students looking for international industry placements, which they can now take in Madrid with multinational company Amadeus IT group AS.
Lancaster students and alumni met in Madrid on 16th November at an event hosted by LUMS International Programmes Director, Dr Radka Newton who was representing Lancaster University at the very first British Council fairs held in Marbella and Madrid. Dr Newton visited the placement students at Amadeus IT group AS and commented on their progress: “Lancaster students are very valued in Amadeus mainly for their IT and communication skills. Amadeus provides a very stimulating multinational environment where our students thrive and we are very pleased with this partnership that we are hoping to expand in the future.”
The placement students joined the alumni reunion later on that evening. It was a great opportunity for them to network with Lancaster graduates who had travelled from all over Spain to attend the event. A very inspirational graduate, Jose A Moral Tajadura (MBA, 2008), who currently represents Specsavers in Spain, flew from London to join the reunion and gave the other attendees a lot of ideas on how to achieve their professional goals in life.
Everybody enjoyed the relaxed evening, tasting varieties of Spanish omelette, and many new friendships were formed. We hope to have more alumni events in Spain in the near future, and to continue to develop LUMS' presence in the country.
