Rocking your Role Executive coach and consultant Jenny Garrett, who completed her MA in Management Learning and Leadership in 2009, is the author of a new book, Rocking your Role, about the female breadwinner.

In the book Jenny describes how being the main earner is still a taboo subject for many women. This means that women often face the challenges of being the breadwinner in silence. This can result in guilt, difficulties in managing money, dealing with society’s assumptions, and handling family life, career and work-life balance.

Jenny started her career in retail and then moved into marketing, holding senior positions with large organisations such as Schroders and Hamptons International.

In 2002 she joined Ashridge Business School where her interest in executive coaching developed.

Her clients have been in education, such as the Learning and Skills Improvement Service and the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education; private sector organisations such as Argos; and voluntary sector organisations such as Help the Hospices.

She is currently working with ACEVO – the Association of Chief Execs in Voluntary Organisations to deliver a collaborative coaching qualification to the sector.

Jenny, together with Dr Caroline Gatrell of LUMS, was interviewed on BBC Radio Four's Woman's Hour programme on 2 July 2012, talking about the difficulties of being a female breadwinner.
