Forbes magazine ranks Lancaster in world's top 20 MBA programmes
Published 7 August 2009
Forbes Magazine has ranked Lancaster and its MBA 16th in the world in its 2009 ranking issued on the 6th of August. Forbes’ ranking uses Return on Investment (ROI) as the main measure, which is particularly relevant to MBA candidates in the current tough global economy. By the same measure, Lancaster is 4th in the UK among one-year MBA programmes.
Oliver Westall, Programme Director of the Lancaster MBA, said: “European MBA Programmes like Lancaster’s are outstanding value compared with most American programmes.
“They also provide the international experience so important when managers face a global recruitment market, with many nationalities in the classroom, and international visits and projects also an option. And the class contains managers with more work experience than typical American programmes, offering greater opportunities for sharing experience and engaging in discussion with faculty.”
Forbes’ website allows users to customise the ranking according to which of seven criteria they attach most importance. For example, Lancaster is the 1st or 2nd ranked business school in the world for candidates attaching maximum importance not just to ROI, but also to measures of quality, value and effectiveness, such as Highly Selective, Alumni Satisfaction and Low Tuition Fees.
Randall Zindler, CEO of European-based charity Medair – and a Lancaster MBA alumnus – is enthusiastic about Lancaster's rating by Forbes. “This ranking for Lancaster does not surprise me in the least,” he says. “Lancaster University Management School’s excellence and value for money is why I, as a US citizen having earned bachelor’s degrees from US schools, chose to go to Lancaster. I am delighted though that Lancaster is being recognised more – it is a treasure that more students, employers and the media should be aware of.”

The Lancaster MBA also does well in other rankings. The Financial Times ranked Lancaster 27th in the world in its list of the Top 100 Global MBA Programmes in 2009.
