Semi Final of China-UK Entrepreneurship Competition 2012 held at LUMS

The China-UK Competition is run by four UK partner universities; Lancaster University, York University, UCL and the University of East London in connection with the China Innovation and Development Agency (CIDA). At Lancaster, the competition is run through by the Lancaster China Management Centre and supported by the Lancaster Confucius Institute.
The semi final event at Lancaster commenced with opening remarks from Consul Wu of the Chinese Consulate in Manchester. The judging panel included senior academics, experienced managers and industry experts.
From numerous entries, eight teams, including a team of Lancaster MBA students, were selected to participate in the Lancaster semi finals following a mentoring workshop held at UCL earlier in the year. After a close contest, four teams were selected to progress to the next stage of the competition, which will be held at UCL on 20th July.
Prof David Brown, Director of the LCMC and member of the judging panel, explained that the competition aims to inspire young entrepreneurs in UK universities and local businesses to develop sustainable, high growth business ventures between China and the UK.
The competition is also being run concurrently in China through Chongqing University. The winners of the UK grand finals will be pitched against the winners of the Chinese competition later in the year. At stake is up to £11,000 in prize money, a possible free work space in London for a year and a potential trip to China.
Previous winners of the competition have set up their businesses in China with some acheiving grants from regional and central government to establish their businesses.
