Discourse, Strategy Making and Strategic Renewal
Published 15 January 2010
There has been increasing interest within Strategy-as-Practice as to how discourse can further our understanding of the work of strategists and how they accomplish their strategy making. Two recent workshops brought together individuals from SAP and related fields to focus on advancing studies on strategy making, strategic renewal and change from a discourse perspective.
The first workshop in June 2009 focussed more on methods and brought together academics from the strategy field with those specializing in discourse and linguistics. Call for Papers-Special Issue JMS
The second workshop in November 2009 featured presentations on empirical work underway and involved many scholars from the Strategy-as-practice community also interested in discourse, including Professor Ann Langely, HEC, Montreal; Professors Saku Mantere and Eero Vaara from Hanken, Finland; and Professor Claus Jacobs from St Gallen, Switzerland. The workshop was once again run with the Linguistics Department at Lancaster. Professor Ruth Wodak opened the workshop with a keynote speech on developments in discourse. Professor Ann Langley, HEC Montreal, closed the workshop with a discussion of key issues raised during the event.
