Students learn value of social enterprises

The whole cohort of British Society and Business Environment, an undergraduate module designed specifically for first-year LUMS international students, met on Saturday 10 October to engage in an Enterprise day that involved developing ideas for social enterprises.
Dr Radka Newton who is the module director said: “This is the first year we decided to run two Enterprise days as a part of this module. The aim of the module is to assist international students with integration into the British HE system. We felt that engaging them with our Volunteering Unit - LUVU - would add great value to the module syllabus and enhance students’ awareness of personal development planning.”

Going through the feedback forms it was clear that the day was quite challenging for the students and one of the comments that the organisers valued most was: “So far I thought of business as a profit-making venture but now I know it can be more than that.” A number of students commented on how they improved their presentation skills and learnt to work in teams.

The next Enterprise day takes place on 14 November and will be organised by CREATE.
