Lancaster has strengthened its position in the elite group of top-ten universities in the UK. In The Times Good University Guide 2012, Lancaster is ranked 9th overall out of over 100 universities. Accounting and Finance is ranked 2nd in the UK and Business Studies 6th.
The league table shows that Lancaster University is respected and targeted by the largest and top employers for graduates. More than 70% of Lancaster graduates found graduate employment or went on to further study last year, and more than 70% of graduates achieved a good honours degree. Student satisfaction is also ranked 12th in the UK.
Lancaster is now consistently in the top ten of UK universities in three major league tables which measure quality across criteria such as teaching, employability, research and student satisfaction. The other league tables are the Guardian, where Lancaster is ranked 7th, and the Complete University Guide, where Lancaster is ranked 9th. Lancaster is currently ranked 124 globally in the THE world rankings 2010.
The Times says: “Lancaster broke into the top ten for the first time in last year’s League Table and it has moved up another place in the latest edition. Students are more satisfied, entry grades have gone up and a higher proportion of undergraduates achieved top-class degrees.”
The National Student Survey shows that the highest satisfaction levels tend to be at smaller campus-based universities such as Lancaster. Lancaster has a friendly college system and has seen a £350m investment in its campus to provide top-quality accommodation, teaching and research space and facilities such as a brand new £20m Sports Centre.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Paul Wellings, said: “This result reflects Lancaster’s leading research and innovative teaching, and also the great overall experience that we offer students. Lancaster is committed to giving students the very best education and to equipping them well to compete and stand out in the jobs market.”
The top ten universities in the Times Good University Guide are: Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, Imperial College, UCL, Durham, St Andrews, Warwick, Lancaster and Exeter.
