Thesis

This is My Body, Broken for You:- Exploring Social Closure Mechanisms within the Church of England

Thesis Outline

This thesis proposed to explore how far social and occupational closure mechanisms operate within the Church of England. In particular, it seeks to understand the impact of such mechanisms on 'Mission' (encouraging new members to join the church community and take part in its activities). In so doing, the research seeks to investigate in particular the ability of clergy to manage their responsibilities regarding mission within the context of social closure mechanisms Investigating the way that the church manages diversity in relation to stipendiary clergy in particular. This may enable the disparity between core gospel values - inclusion, diversity, equality, grace - to become embedded within good management practice, possibly via praxis informing theology as good practice in the secular world has a prophetic impact on the Church.
