ITO 15 -- Systems Analysis and Design

Research Interests

My research examines how the social context affects IS development and implementation, particularly in service-sector and professional organisations, including: e-commerce and startup companies (across a range of industries), medicine, law, engineering, and government.  In studying this topic, I have used a range of social theories (actor network, boundary objects, innovation, structuration, linguistic, communicative action, power-knowledge, institutional), and interpretive and critical methodologies (action research, ethnomethodology, deconstruction, discourse).

In studying these questions, I have examined various topics (user involvement, diffusion of innovations, knowledge management, packaged software and enterprise resource planning, outsourcing, virtuality, informaton security, cyber-crime, privacy, project management, and system development).  Most of my work has involved participant observation.
