...for a critical perspective on technology and organisation

Aims and objectives

The principal aim of the Centre is to promote the critical study of the relationship between technology and organisations in the context of contemporary developments associated with the emergence of the so-called 'information society'. It is this critical edge to the approach of the Centre that makes it distinctive. Through this approach the Centre seeks to promote a deeper and more substantive perspective on technology and organisation. It goes beyond that work restricted to the study of the social impact of technology, and places much emphasis on the social (including economic and political) factors and processes through which technologies are constructed for managerial and organisational purposes. Thus the Centre seeks to examine the ongoing development of the organisation-technology nexus as well as considering the question of its significance and its social and ethical implications.
