About the Centre
The Centre for e-Science is funded by Lancaster University and is part of Lancaster University Management School.
The specific objectives of the Centre are:
- To establish the UK's 1st internationally recognised Centre for e-Social Science research
- To stimulate the uptake of e-Social Science methodologies and technologies in the social sciences, social and health services, industry and commerce;
- To develop middleware appropriate to e-Social Science, masking for example, the complexity of the underlying network;
- To establish an Access GRID Node and provide access to Lancaster’s surplus HPC facilities;
- To support, co-ordinate and oversee a programme of multidisciplinary e-Social Science projects;
- To assist the social science research community with the processes of obtaining funding from the research councils, DfE, DTI, MoD and Home Office;
- To provide appropriate training in e-Science for social scientists, which include: parallel programming, database management tools, Fortran, C++, statistical software and Globus.
The Centre brings together a large number of Lancaster University researchers from a variety of disciplines. Lancaster has demonstrated excellence in research by top ratings in the RAE for 20 years.
