BA (Hons) Business Economics (Study Abroad)
UCAS code: L103
Overview
The BA (Hons) Business Economics (Study Abroad) provides a strong foundation in economic theories and principles but with a particular focus on examining their relevance to business and managerial situations. Students will be asked to analyse the international economic environment in the UK, and to assess the impact of external factors on micro and macroeconomic performance and public policy.
What distinguishes this degree from its counterpart, the BA Business Economics, is that you spend your second year studying at an approved university in North America or Australasia where you take equivalent courses for full credit towards your degree.
This programme allows students to study economics whilst leaving more space in the curriculum for complementary subjects than is possible on the BSc Economics programme. Specialist streams within the degree enable you to combine your study of economics with another subject chosen from the Management School, Politics, or a modern foreign language. Alternatively, you can opt for a more general scheme by choosing a broader range of Management School subjects and Politics to combine with your study of economics.
Requirements
A-level: AAA including A-Level Maths
General Studies: Accepted as one of 3 A-levels
Scottish Highers: AAABB
International Bacc: 36 points with 16 in 3 HL subjects.
IELTS: 6.5

First Year
ECON 100 and a Part I subject from the Management School, Politics or Languages. The third Part 1 subject can be chosen from the full list of Part I courses, subject to any prerequisites, quotas and timetabling constraints.
Other Years
The single major degree structure comprises five units in Economics. This leaves three units available for minor subjects.
The second year is spent at a university in North America or Australasia. You study broadly the same topics as if you were studying at Lancaster and these courses count fully towards your degree.
In the third year students normally take ECON 331 and ECON 334, plus a further 1.5 units from the ECON 300 series and 1.5 units from subjects chosen from the Management School, Politics or Languages.
