Overview

The BA (Hons) in Economics and Politics is run jointly with the Department of Politics, Philosophy and Religion. Within the Economics component of this degree, students are given a thorough grounding in both macro and microeconomic theory and its relationship to the business world. They also examine aspects of economic history and assess contemporary issues and trends in developed and developing economies. The courses offered within the Politics element focus on the central questions of politics that have shaped the modern world, and encourage students to develop their ideas on themes such as war and peace, poverty and inequality, order and justice, and governance and power.

General Studies: Accepted as one of the 3 best grades, if 4 A-levels presented

Scottish Highers: ABBBB

International Bacc: 34 points overall with 16 from 3 HL subjects.

IELTS: 6.5

BTEC: DDM/DDD

First Year

Students take ECON 100, POLI 100, and one further Part I course, chosen from the full range of Part I subjects (subject to any prerequisites, timetabling and quota constraints).

Other Years

In Years 2 and 3 (Part II) students take four units in Economics and four units in Politics.

Compulsory modules in Year 2:  ECON 220, ECON 221, ECON 222 and ECON 223 or ECON 207/208 and two further Economics modules.

Year 3 options are chosen from the Economics 300 series modules.
