BSc Business Studies

We offer two versions of the Business Studies programme: the BSc (Hons) Business Studies (N102) and the BSc (Hons) Business Studies (Study Abroad)(N103).

The three-year Business Studies degree offers wide-ranging choices to enable you to personalise your degree. You will specialise in two key management areas of your choice through courses delivered by the internationally respected LUMS departments.

We also offer a four year BSc (Hons) Business Studies (Industry) programme giving an opportuity to undertake a placement year in the third year of the course.  You can opt for the industrial placement variant during your first year.

Degree structure

In your first year you choose which key management areas you would like to study in. One of these will continue through your degree. Your second specialism will normally start in your second year. You also select many additional courses from a very wide range of options. You could decide to become a management generalist covering the core elements in all main management disciplines. On the other hand you could choose to specialise much further in any of the subjects taught by LUMS departments, maybe in an area you enjoyed in your first year, or in a new subject such as Entrepreneurship.

You can change direction, even in your third year. Students frequently comment on how valuable it is to have such a range of choices as their experience develops.

Holly Archer"The course covered a wide range of different modules, which provides students with a degree of knowledge in almost all fields of the business environment. Students were given the opportunity to decipher their own strengths and weaknesses whilst pursuing their own direction."

Core modules

Running through the degree are the focused, shared core modules which all students on the programme take. They offer a fascinating overview of business studies, enhance your shared sense of programme identity, but leave plenty of space for choice. These introduce business and management, examine strategic management in the second year, and reflect on leadership and business ethics in the final year.

Experiential learning

You work in teams and groups through programme-specific awaydays, business games and the presentation of practical projects. Our students describe this experiential learning as fun and highly stimulating. We integrate your thinking about your career into the programme design itself – in each year different and developing aspects are explored.

Gateway to a great career

LUMS provides a friendly international learning environment, preparing you for the international stage. Consequently our Business Studies graduates work for many nationally and internationally recognised firms. Amongst the many organisations in which our students have gained graduate-level jobs soon after graduating are Arcadia, BUPA, Deloitte & Touche, IBM, KPMG, Marks & Spencer, NHS, PriceWaterhouseCoopers and Selfridges.

BSc (Hons) Business Studies (Study Abroad)

We also offer a distinctive BSc (Hons) Business Studies (Study Abroad) degree where students spend their second year taking relevant courses at one of a wide range of partner universities in the USA, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia or New Zealand, before returning to Lancaster for their final year.

If you are not accepted on to the Study Abroad programme, you will automatically be considered for the standard BSc Business Studies degree.
