Fees and scholarships

Tuition fees

UK and EU students

Lancaster University has set tuition fees at £9,000 per year for UK and EU full-time undergraduate students commencing study from 2012.

Overseas (non-EU) students

The fee for overseas (non-EU) students for 2011/12 is £13,266 per year. The fee for students commencing study from 2012 will be announced in Spring 2012.

The fees for years not spent studying at Lancaster are lower:

  • Placement year: 20% of full-year fee
  • Year studying abroad (other than EU): 50% of full-year fee
  • One year studying in the EU: no fee for UK/EU students (subject to the continuation of EU arrangements), 50% of full-year fee for non-EU students
  • A further year studying in the EU: 50% of full-year fee

The fees for subsequent years have not yet been determined, but there is likely to be a year-on-year rise to cover inflationary costs.

Scholarships and bursaries

UK students

As a university nationally and internationally recognised for excellence in teaching, scholarship and research, we attract high-calibre, academically gifted students.

The Lancaster Scholarship package is designed to reward the hard work and natural ability of full-time UK students applying to study with us, regardless of their household income. Students achieving the following grades: A*, A & A in their A-level examinations (or equivalent academic qualifications) will receive a £1,000 per year Lancaster Scholarship during their undergraduate studies.

Continuation of the Lancaster Scholarship is subject to satisfactory academic progression.

In addition, Lancaster University offers a bursary package for students from England whose household incomes are less than £25,000 per year.  >> More information on bursaries

EU students

LUMS will be awarding scholarships of £1000 to EU undergraduate students (i.e. those classified as 'EU' for fees purposes). These scholarships are specifically intended to contribute to the cost of fees and will be awarded for the first year of study.

In order to qualify for this award, you will need to meet conditions slightly in excess of those required for guaranteed admission and make Lancaster your first choice. The precise conditions for obtaining a scholarship will be explained in your offer letter. If your offer is unconditional it will be made clear to you when the offer is made whether or not the offer includes a scholarship.
